A Swati Shahtoosh shawl in maroon, handwoven in Salampur, Swat, and hand-embroidered across the whole field of the cloth.
The name, honestly
Swati Shahtoosh is the name the weavers of Salampur gave to the finest, softest shawl on their looms. It contains no antelope fibre. The yarn is fine Australian wool, spun in China, handwoven one shawl at a time on the handlooms of Salampur, Swat, and then hand-embroidered in Multan. It is light enough to carry through a whole winter day and warm enough to matter in the evening, which is why it is the shawl our customers come back to. Read the full story behind the name.
Full embroidery
Here the needlework covers the whole field of the shawl, not just the border, and a single piece takes the embroiderer a week or more. It is the version we recommend for weddings, dinners and Eid, where the shawl is meant to be the centre of the outfit rather than a layer over it.
The colour
Maroon is the traditional colour for a winter wedding, and full embroidery on maroon is the most classic combination we make. It is bought as often for the mother of the bride as for the bride herself. Read our guide to choosing a wedding shawl.
