A Kashmiri pashmina Kani shawl on a soft taupe ground, handwoven with rosewood and deep brown flowering sprays across the field, framed on all four sides by a scalloped border of paisley and blossom, and closed at each end with a colonnade of rosewood and charcoal stripes.
Kani is one of Kashmir's traditional shawl techniques. The pattern isn't printed or embroidered onto the cloth — it is built into the weave itself, colour by colour, using small wooden bobbins called kanis, following a coded pattern script. It is slow, careful loom work, and no two pieces come out the same.
This is the same design as our Sand & Rose piece, worked in a darker register — and the difference is worth understanding. On the pale version the flowers float; here, against taupe with charcoal in the drawing, the same motifs sit down into the cloth and read as depth rather than decoration. It is the quieter and more masculine of the two, and the one that holds up better under artificial light.
Taupe with rosewood is also one of the most forgiving combinations in the collection. It works against black, brown, olive and cream alike — a piece you can wear without planning the rest of the outfit around it.

Size: approximately 40″ × 80″ (100 × 200 cm). One size, unstitched, with the natural fringe left as the loom made it.
Long enough to wrap twice, drape over one shoulder, or wear open over a formal outfit. Every piece is finished by hand, so measurements can vary by an inch or so.
Fine Kashmiri pashmina. Handwoven in Kashmir, and fine enough that the finished shawl passes whole through a finger ring. Nothing is printed; every pattern is woven in.
Dry clean only. Between wears, air the shawl flat in shade for an hour; never hang it by one corner. Store folded in the box it came in, or in a cotton bag with a cedar block. Do not iron directly; if it creases, steam it through a cotton cloth. Put perfume on before the shawl, never onto it.
