A Kashmiri pashmina Kani shawl on a soft ivory ground, covered all over in a dense trailing vine of leaves, small flowers and curling paisleys woven in charcoal and warm cocoa brown. A charcoal border of white leaf sprigs frames the field, edged on the long sides with a fine diamond chain, and each end finishes in bold stripes of charcoal, cocoa and ivory with a short fringe.
The design
This is a classic all-over paisley jaal kept to a two-tone palette, so it reads crisp and graphic, almost like a fine print, until you look closely and see every leaf woven in. The striped ends give it a smart, modern finish that makes it as easy to wear with western clothes as with a shalwar kameez.
How it is made
The pattern is not printed or embroidered onto the cloth. It is woven into Kashmiri pashmina, colour by colour, using the Kani technique. Turn the shawl over and you will see the reverse of the weave, with the thread changes visible behind every motif. That is the honest back of a woven pattern, not a fault.

Ivory and charcoal is the most versatile pairing there is: it goes with black, grey, white, navy, camel and almost every print. An easy everyday shawl that still looks considered, and one that suits both women and men.

Size: approximately 40″ × 80″ (100 × 200 cm). One size, unstitched, with the natural fringe left as the loom made it.
Long enough to wrap twice, drape over one shoulder, or wear open over a formal outfit. Every piece is finished by hand, so measurements can vary by an inch or so.
Pashmina, Kani-woven. The pattern is woven on the loom with small wooden bobbins called kanis, one colour at a time, by weavers in Kashmir. It is not printed and not embroidered; turn the shawl over and you will see the pattern worked through the cloth.
Dry clean only. Between wears, air the shawl flat in shade for an hour; never hang it by one corner. Store folded in the box it came in, or in a cotton bag with a cedar block. Do not iron directly; if it creases, steam it through a cotton cloth. Put perfume on before the shawl, never onto it.
