A fine Kashmiri pashmina ring shawl (Palladar) in soft fawn, its field woven with a tone-on-tone lattice of paisley medallions, and finished at each end with a palla of five large paisleys worked almost entirely in black and deep brown.
The name comes from the test. A Palladar is a shawl fine enough to be drawn whole through a finger ring — the traditional proof of fine Kashmiri pashmina. Yarn this fine breaks if the loom is pushed, so the weaving is slow and careful, and there is no shortcut to a cloth that passes. The ring is simply the proof.
The pallas
Each end carries a row of tall paisleys edged in small woven flowers, set on a ground of flowering sprigs and framed by a chain of little paisleys. Where most of our pallas are worked in colour, these are drawn almost entirely in black and dark brown, with only the faintest touches of sage and rose — so the pattern reads like an engraving on the pale cloth. All of it is woven in, not printed or stitched, so it shows on both sides.
The field above is quiet: a lattice of paisley medallions in the same fawn as the ground, visible only when the light crosses it.
The colour
Fawn is a light, warm khaki-brown with a soft sheen — paler than our warm khaki and cooler than camel. With the black pallas it becomes a properly smart neutral: easy over black, grey, cream or navy, and quieter than anything else in the range while still being unmistakably patterned.
Details
Handwoven cloth varies very slightly along its length; any faint unevenness you can see against the light is the mark of the handloom, not a fault.

Size: approximately 40″ × 80″ (100 × 200 cm). One size, unstitched, with the natural fringe left as the loom made it.
Long enough to wrap twice, drape over one shoulder, or wear open over a formal outfit. Every piece is finished by hand, so measurements can vary by an inch or so.
Fine Kashmiri pashmina. Handwoven in Kashmir, and fine enough that the finished shawl passes whole through a finger ring. Nothing is printed; every pattern is woven in.
Dry clean only. Between wears, air the shawl flat in shade for an hour; never hang it by one corner. Store folded in the box it came in, or in a cotton bag with a cedar block. Do not iron directly; if it creases, steam it through a cotton cloth. Put perfume on before the shawl, never onto it.
