A Swati Shahtoosh shawl in maroon — no embroidery, no border, just the cloth itself. The ground carries a fine self-coloured diamond weave that shows when the light crosses it, and the ends finish in a short natural fringe.
The plain one
Most of our Swati Shahtoosh range is embroidered, and the embroidery is what people notice first. This piece is the same cloth with nothing added, which means the weave has to carry the whole shawl on its own. Held flat it reads as a solid maroon; gathered or draped, the diamond pattern comes up across every fold. It is the shawl to reach for when you want colour without pattern — over a black or cream outfit, a plain kurta, or anything with enough embroidery of its own that a patterned shawl would fight it.
The colour
Maroon is a deep, wine-dark red — the colour of a good burgundy — with a matt surface and no shine. It is the one colour in the plain range that is not neutral, and that is the point of it: it lifts black, cream, grey and gold without shouting. It is a wedding-season colour that works just as well on an ordinary winter day, and it photographs beautifully because the weave gives it depth instead of flatness. The weave texture is what you see on it, not gloss.
