Fine Pashmina Ring (Palladar) Shawl — Grey

Rs.38,000.00

A fine Kashmiri pashmina ring shawl (Palladar) in soft mid grey, handwoven from hand-spun pashmina light enough to pass whole through a finger ring.

The name comes from the test. A Palladar is a shawl fine enough to be drawn whole through a finger ring — and that is only possible when the pashmina has been hand-spun on a charkha to a thread so fine it is barely visible against the light. Spinners who do this work have often done nothing else for decades. The weaving that follows is just as slow, because yarn this fine breaks if the loom is pushed. There is no machine equivalent and no shortcut; the ring is simply the proof.

Grey is the shade that behaves like a neutral without going anywhere near beige. It reads modern rather than traditional, works with denim as easily as with formal dress, and is the easiest colour in the range to wear every day.

Undecorated, so there is nothing to look at but the cloth itself. It folds down to almost nothing in a bag, weighs less than you expect in the hand, and is warmer than its weight suggests — which is the whole argument for pashmina at this level.

Hand-spun yarn varies slightly along its length; the faint unevenness you can see against the light is the signature of hand work, not a fault.
