The ring test is in the photos above: a genuine Palladar passes whole through a finger ring, and this is one of ours.
About this piece
A Moonlight Kani shawl in Kashmiri pashmina and silk, woven with a full pictorial scene of royal court life: palace pavilions and arched doorways, women gathered beneath a jewelled canopy, musicians and dancers on patterned carpets, flowering trees, a pond with flamingos and waterbirds, and a deep red courtyard at the centre. The whole field is framed by a border of arched niches, each holding a standing figure, that runs the full perimeter.
Why it is called Moonlight
Moonlight Kani is woven on a Kashmiri pashmina and silk base. The silk catches light the way moonlight catches water: the pale ground shifts between ivory, champagne and soft bronze as the shawl moves, and the colours in the scene sit on top of that sheen rather than on a flat cloth. Photographs only half show it. In hand, under evening light, it is the reason people stop to look twice.
How it is woven
The pattern is not printed or embroidered onto the cloth. It is woven into it, colour by colour, so the scene belongs to the fabric itself. This piece is made on a hand-tended power loom, the same way khadi shawls are woven in Swat: the loom carries the heavy work, while the weaver sets and guides it through every pass. That is what makes a scene this detailed possible at this price, while keeping the soft, woven hand of the cloth.
Turn the shawl over and you will see the reverse of the weave: the same scene in softer, broken colour, with the thread changes visible. That is the honest back of a woven pattern, not a fault.
What to look for
This is a piece to spend time with. Look closely and the scene keeps opening up: a woman leaning toward a musician, birds wading at the water's edge, a figure framed in each arch of the border, each one dressed differently. Pictorial Kani of this kind is the statement end of the tradition, the shawl worn to a wedding or a winter evening when you want the cloth itself to be the conversation.

Size & how to wear
Size: approximately 40″ × 80″ (100 × 200 cm). One size, unstitched, with the natural fringe left as the loom made it.
Long enough to wrap twice, drape over one shoulder, or wear open over a formal outfit. Every piece is finished by hand, so measurements can vary by an inch or so.
Material & origin
Fine Kashmiri pashmina. Handwoven in Kashmir, and fine enough that the finished shawl passes whole through a finger ring. Nothing is printed; every pattern is woven in.
Care
Dry clean only. Between wears, air the shawl flat in shade for an hour; never hang it by one corner. Store folded in the box it came in, or in a cotton bag with a cedar block. Do not iron directly; if it creases, steam it through a cotton cloth. Put perfume on before the shawl, never onto it.
