Why lambswool

Lambswool is the first shearing of a young sheep: finer, softer and springier than the wool of an adult animal, which is why it is used for the best sweaters. Woven into a shawl it gives warmth without the weight of a heavy wool, and it does not itch against the neck. It is the men's shawl we suggest for anyone who has found ordinary wool too rough.

Made for how men wear a shawl

Cut larger, roughly 45 by 90 inches, with a plain field and a simple selvedge, so it can be thrown over one shoulder or wrapped fully against the cold. Read our guide to sizes, colours and how to wear one.

The colour

Navy is the formal alternative to black: it looks right in an office, at a dinner, and over a white shalwar kameez at a wedding.

Handwoven cloth varies slightly from piece to piece; small irregularities in the weave are the signature of hand work, not a fault. Colours may differ slightly from the photographs depending on your screen.

Size & how to wear

Men's size: approximately 45″ × 90″ (115 × 230 cm). One size, unstitched, with the natural fringe left as the loom made it.

Worn over the shoulders and draped once across the chest, or folded lengthwise and wrapped for warmth. Long enough to cover a full winter coat.
Material & origin

100% wool, handwoven in Salampur, Swat. Heavier and warmer than our Khadi, made for the coldest weeks of winter.
Care

Hand wash cold with a mild wool shampoo, or dry clean. Press the water out in a towel, never wring, and dry flat in shade. Store folded with a cedar block. Do not iron directly; steam through a cotton cloth if needed.
