What Khadi means
Khadi takes its name from the khaddi, the wooden handloom that every weaving family in Salampur keeps at home. A Khadi shawl is the plainest thing that loom makes: soft wool yarn, an open, light weave, a simple finish and no embroidery to add weight or cost. The result is a shawl that folds into a handbag, goes over a lawn kurta in October and a sweater in January, and does not need to be looked after like a fine pashmina. A note on the word pashmina
"Swati pashmina" is the Salampur weavers' own name for their softest everyday wool weave. It is a wool shawl, not the goat-fibre pashmina of Kashmir, and we price it as one. The colour
A soft, honeyed amber, warmer than beige and gentler than mustard. It flatters most skin tones and sits especially well with cream, brown and olive.
