A fine Kashmiri pashmina ring shawl (Palladar) in soft pistachio green, with a faint self-coloured paisley woven through the field and a deep bronze pallu at each end — a row of large paisleys, each set in its own scalloped medallion.
The name comes from the test. A Palladar is a shawl fine enough to be drawn whole through a finger ring — the traditional proof of fine Kashmiri pashmina. Yarn this fine breaks if the loom is pushed, so the weaving is slow and careful, and there is no shortcut to a cloth that passes. The ring is simply the proof.
The pallas
Each end carries a broad woven band in bronze, ochre and deep brown. Inside it stand large paisleys, each framed in a scalloped cartouche and filled with small flowers in ivory, lilac and soft blue, with a running border of tiny paisleys closing the band above and below. Everything is woven in rather than printed or stitched, so the pattern shows on both sides of the cloth.
The field is left almost plain — a pale pistachio with a tone-on-tone paisley you only catch when the light moves across it — so all the colour sits in the ends, where it falls to the front when the shawl is draped.
The colour
Pistachio is a soft, slightly silvered green with a warm cast, closer to sage than to anything bright. Against it, the bronze pallas read rich rather than heavy. It is an unusual pairing for a Palladar and one of the more distinctive pieces in the range — easy over cream, white, olive and camel.
Details
Handwoven cloth varies very slightly along its length; any faint unevenness you can see against the light is the mark of the handloom, not a fault.

Size: approximately 40″ × 80″ (100 × 200 cm). One size, unstitched, with the natural fringe left as the loom made it.
Long enough to wrap twice, drape over one shoulder, or wear open over a formal outfit. Every piece is finished by hand, so measurements can vary by an inch or so.
Fine Kashmiri pashmina. Handwoven in Kashmir, and fine enough that the finished shawl passes whole through a finger ring. Nothing is printed; every pattern is woven in.
Dry clean only. Between wears, air the shawl flat in shade for an hour; never hang it by one corner. Store folded in the box it came in, or in a cotton bag with a cedar block. Do not iron directly; if it creases, steam it through a cotton cloth. Put perfume on before the shawl, never onto it.
