A fine Kashmiri pashmina ring shawl (Palladar) in blush pink — a pale, powdery rose with a faint silvery slub through the weave — finished at each end with a broad woven palla of large paisleys in olive, moss and indigo, and a narrow band of plain blush beyond it before the fringe.
The name comes from the test. A Palladar is a shawl fine enough to be drawn whole through a finger ring — the traditional proof of fine Kashmiri pashmina. Yarn this fine breaks if the loom is pushed, so the weaving is slow and careful.
Soft field, dark palla
Most pink shawls pair the pink with more pink, or with gold. This one does the opposite: the field is the palest colour in our range and the pallas are among the darkest — a dense ground of olive and slate on which the big curling paisleys are drawn in moss green and indigo, with small flowers and a running vine filling the spaces between, and a row of tiny medallions closing the band at each edge.
The contrast is the point. Hung from the shoulder, the pale pink does the softening and the dark palla does the framing, so the shawl reads as formal without being heavy. It is a combination that suits daytime weddings and winter evenings equally, and it goes over ivory, cream, grey, navy and black without arguing with any of them.
The colour
Blush pink here is muted rather than sweet — the pink of dried rose petals, with a grey-beige cast that keeps it from looking girlish. In warm light it warms towards peach; in daylight it cools towards a dusty rose. The self-coloured paisley pattern woven through the field shows only when the light crosses it.
Details
Handwoven cloth varies very slightly along its length; any faint unevenness you can see against the light is the mark of the handloom, not a fault.

Size: approximately 40″ × 80″ (100 × 200 cm). One size, unstitched, with the natural fringe left as the loom made it.
Long enough to wrap twice, drape over one shoulder, or wear open over a formal outfit. Every piece is finished by hand, so measurements can vary by an inch or so.
Fine Kashmiri pashmina. Handwoven in Kashmir, and fine enough that the finished shawl passes whole through a finger ring. Nothing is printed; every pattern is woven in.
Dry clean only. Between wears, air the shawl flat in shade for an hour; never hang it by one corner. Store folded in the box it came in, or in a cotton bag with a cedar block. Do not iron directly; if it creases, steam it through a cotton cloth. Put perfume on before the shawl, never onto it.
